The cladodes grow from lateral areoles. There are 7-11+ central spines. The primary radial spine pair (the most abaxial) is greater than half the length of the central. <em>G. densispina<\/em> is morphologically similar to the diploid <em>G. aggeria<\/em>. Additionally,&nbsp;in all known populations, <em>G. densispina<\/em> occurs sympatrically with <em>G. aggeria<\/em> but <em>G. densispina<\/em> is more abundant in lower-lying areas with high clay content. Hybrids between <em>G. densispina<\/em> and <em>G. aggeria<\/em> have been reported. <em>G. densispina<\/em> was long disregarded as a distinct species due to similarities with other <em>G. schottii<\/em>-complex plants.
