Opuntia wolfii (L.D. Benson) J. Rebman (Cylindropuntia)

Opuntia wolfii (Cylindropuntia wolfii) is found in the Sonoran Desert of far southern California and adjacent Baja California. While often 3-foot-tall or less, the species may make shrubs over 6-foot-tall. The flower is burgundy, or purple-brown but may be lighter in the inner tepals.

The reader is referred to "Plants of Southern California: Chollas," for a more complete discussion of the various Cylindropuntia of California (and adacent areas).

Wayne's World Online Textbook provides an image or two of O. wolfii flowers.
