Opuntia species, Unknown No. 6

These Opuntia were observed in northern Arizona, near Meadview and Lake Mead. They were growing with or near O. engelmannii, O. basilaris, O. polyacantha, Cylindropuntia acanthocarpa, and C. ramosissima. In some ways the plants resemble O. basilaris var. treleasii. However, the cladodes are a distinct green and the flowers have green stigmas; both traits are uncharacteristic of O. basilaris. The Editor-in-chief has proposed that the plants are related to O. aurea--perhaps an uncommon variation.
