Chickamauga (a presumed Opuntia hybrid)

Chickamauga is sold by Nearly Native Nursery in Georgia. 'N3 Chickamauga' is purportedly a naturally occurring hybrid between O. humifusa and O. macrorhiza that was collected by retired Georgia botanist Jim Allison.

‘N3 Chickamauga’ is an attractive garden plant that can be used as a hanging plant because it is prostrate and pliable. When grown in a hanging manner ‘N3 Chicamauga’ conveniently places its flowers upright so they can be enjoyed; the plant can be potted and set on a bench or overhead. With regular water and light fertilizer in the growing season, the plant is a stellar grower and bloomer, or it can be grown under more xeric conditions. ‘N3 Chicamauga’ has grown and thrived from rainy Georgia to East Texas, and it is claimed ‘N3 Chickamauga’ is hardy in USDA climate zone 5.

Chickamauga is larger than a typical O. humifusa or O. macrorhiza plant. The authors of this Website have not been able to verify its origins.
