Opuntia azurea Rose

Opuntia azurea is a beautiful species related to O. chisoensis and O. macrocentra. A drawing and a photograph of this striking plant can be found in the book by Britton and Rose (The Cactaceae, Vol. 1, 1919) on page 143. A description of O. azurea appears on page 130 of The Cacti of the Trans-Pecos and Adjacent Areas (Powell and Weedin, Texas Tech Press, 2004). Four varieties of O. aurea are described by Powell and Weedin; however, see the note from Dave Ferguson.
